Summer Camps 2026

In association with The Nest Early Learning Centre and in partnership with Stewardship Pemberton at The One Mile Lake Nature Centre, our camp are designed to immerse children in hands-on outdoor learning experiences that blend teacher-led instruction with exploratory play. Through nature-based activities, water play, hikes, and group games, campers will develop independence, build friendships, and foster a deeper appreciation for the environment.

These camps will include water play; children will need to provide their own PFD or complete a swimming competency demonstration to be able to swim without.

If we provide enough space and possibilities for moving freely, then children will move as well as animals: skillfully, simply, securely, naturally.

Registration Details

To provide flexibility and accommodate varying schedules, registration will be organized by specific days over monthly blocks.

For example, you can enroll your child for all Tuesdays in July. This approach allows families to select consistent days each week that best suit their needs while allowing us to plan accordingly.

Camp Structure

Morning Circle Time

Each day begins with a group gathering where we introduce the day’s theme and collaboratively plan activities.

Themed Activities

Throughout the day children will engage in a mix of teacher-led games, activities and exploratory play, focusing on topics such as local wildlife, plant identification, and environmental stewardship.

Outdoor Exploration

Regular excursions within One Mile Lake Park, including nature hikes and observational studies, to provide practical learning experiences.

Risk Management

Prior to going on any adventures the group will talk about safety plans – involving the children in managing the risk will empower them to have a safe mindset and approach to outdoor experiences.

At The Woods, we believe in the magic of childhood and the power of nature to inspire growth, resilience, and joy. Our camps are intentionally crafted to give children the space and freedom to unwind, explore, and thrive.
Summer is a time to stretch out, breathe deeply, and reconnect with the rhythms of nature. We know that children learn best through doing—so our days are rich with sensory experiences, hands-on discovery, and open-ended play. Whether it’s building a fort, painting a found nature treasure, or enjoying a game in the forest, campers are active participants in shaping their experience. Themes and activities shift week to week, but the heartbeat of our camp is consistent: creating connections and respect for nature and each other.
We meet children where they’re at. Many arrive to us after a full and structured school year, and what they often need most is time:
time to play, to lead, to observe, to connect. Our educators understand this and guide children through a balance of teacher-led
invitations and open exploration that support curiosity, confidence, and connection.

The Details

Outdoor Programming

This is an outdoor nature based camp. We will do our best to reduce exposure to the elements but children should come prepared for the weather.

Camp runs rain or shine, so come prepared for all weather!

Payment Policies.

Full payment is due at the time of registration to secure a spot. Written notice of withdrawal must be provided 30 days prior to first day in order to receive a refund less a 10% administrative fee.

There will be no refunds or make-up days for missed camp days due to illness, vacations, or other absences.

If the educators and management deem that we are unable to meet the child’s needs or that the program is not a good fit for the child they will receive a full refund of any unused days from the day of exit of the program.

My child is in another camp or away for a week. Can we register for certain days instead of the full month session?

We understand that summer schedules can be a bit of a puzzle for families. At this time, registration is offered by full monthly session only. As a small program, we plan our staffing and materials carefully based on registrations, and offering partial or custom schedules isn’t something we’re able to manage right now.

Can I enrol my child for single days/ do you offer drop n days?

If space becomes available, we may open limited single-day registration during the summer. These opportunities would be shared first with currently enrolled families by email, and any remaining spots may then be opened to the public. In previous seasons, sessions have filled quickly, so registering for a full monthly session is the best way to secure a spot rather than relying on potential single-day availability.

What does my child need to bring?

● Adventure Backpack (child-sized and easy to carry on our nature adventures – can be a camelback)
● 2 Water bottles (there is limited water on site, please send 2 filled water bottles each day)
● Nutritious morning snack and lunch (we are a nut-free environment—please no peanuts or tree nuts)
● Separate snack (to be taken on our adventure in their backpack ex. Bars, crackers and cheese, fruit etc.)
● Sun hat (wide-brimmed and able to get wet preferred)
● Light long-sleeve shirt and pants (for sun and bug protection)
● Comfortable outdoor shoes (runners or sturdy sandals; no flip-flops please)
● Change of clothes (including socks and underwear, in a labelled wet bag or ziplock – we might get wet or
muddy!)
● Rain gear (if the forecast calls for it—rain jacket and boots; we play rain or shine!)
● Swimsuit and towel
● Water shoes
● Plastic bag or wet bag for damp items
● Personal Flotation Device (PFD) if your child requires one — a well-fitted, labelled personal PFD is ideal

Please Leave at Home

● Children will not be permitted to purchase items from the Paddle Barn while at camp, please do not send
money with your children.

What is your illness policy?
